HAVE NOTS CROOKED DRUNKEN SONS TOUR UPDATE NUMBAH 1

 Hi interwebz, Jon from Have Nots here, checking in from the road somewhere between Toledo and Milwaukee…we’re three shows into our tour with Street Dogs and Lenny Lashley’s Gang of One, totally stoked, and grateful to the Street Dogs for affording us this opportunity…

After a three day drive, which included a stop in Philly, where we picked up some homemade honey wine from our friend Brett, and a six hour drive through some sort of weird/hurricane/tornado/silent electrical storm in Ohio and Indiana, we kicked off the tour in Columbia Missouri…don’t ask why, we don’t know either, we didn’t book this…but it’s gotta start somewhere…loaded in, said hi to the fellas, Jams and I went to find some food and stumbled across a pool hall that’s been there since the 1800s…ran into an old timer outside who insisted that we come in for a burger, then bought us our “first round” of them and proceeded to tell up stories about how when the Mescaleros played in town, Joe went out to a bar with everyone after the show, kicked the bartender out from behind the bar and sat him down, then served everyone drinks til the wee hours…pretty cool story, pretty good burgers, if you’re ever in Columbia MO, go to Booches and say hi to Ron, he’s probably still sitting at the bar, and you might just get a burger out of it…show was good, little rusty after three straight days in the van, but it felt good to knock the cobwebs off…pretty decent crowd for a Monday night too, which helped…packed it up and headed off towards Newport Kentucky…crashed out in the budgetest of Budget Inns, complete with a heater that blew arctic air into the room, sweet…when Steve went to the desk in the morning to complain about it and try to get some money back, dude countered by saying that since there were four of us we owed him another twenty bucks…gotta admire the man’s business savvy…we decided to call it a draw and got outta there…

Day 2, ok, day 4, show 2, Newport Kentucky…played in an old historic mansion that had been gutted and turned into a huge club…this guy showed up at soundcheck with two bottles of Makers for us, which was rad…then after the show he bought a ton of merch and gave us extra money for a hotel room, radder still…thanks Kevin, you rule…the show was awesome; after a 30 minute practice during soundcheck, Paul from SD sat in with Lenny, Luke, and Ryan, which brought a whole new element to their set…really cool to be able to watch it come together…our set was good, we kicked it up a couple of notches from the night before, which was vindicating…SD brought it as always; they’d played a union rally that afternoon in Columbus OH then drove straight to the show, and killed it like they’d had all day to rest…really awesome to be involved with people who walk the walk…after the show we went to the bar upstairs where they were doing karaoke, highlights included Lenny doing Summer of 69, Mike and Tobe doing It’s Tricky by Run DMC, Johnny’s drunken Mack the Knife, as well as Matt, Steve and I doing a heartfelt but horrible version of We Didn’t Start the Fire…afterwards everybody headed over to the Travelodge next door to crash out…Newport KY, who knew?…

Last nights show in Toledo was a fun one,  small venue, which is nice every once in a while…crowd was into it, Matt sliced up his finger one song in and bled everywhere, which didn’t do much for his guitar tone, but was wicked punk rock…crashed with some nice girls, their mom, 9 cats, and 2 dogs, and woke up bright and early to get to the venue on time…which we just arrived at, and not a moment too soon, as Steve’s ass is seriously putting a damper on being in the van right now…can’t breathe, gotta go, more later.
